What We Do

From the Director....

The Ministry of the Natchez Children's Home Services involves:

  • Creating public awareness of abuse and neglect of children and adolescents that exists in the area,
  • Intervening in the lives of children and their families to prevent the continuation of abuse cycle,
  • Providing nurturing Christian homes for children in peril,
  • Demonstrating healthy family models and serving as mentors to the children and to the community,
  • Taking a pro-active stand in Youth Court matters, legislation involving children and families, and community education.
  • We accomplish this in the following ways:

    Family Visitation
The ultimate goal of the Natchez Children’s Home is family reunification. To that end, visits with biological family are encouraged, scheduled regularly and supervised by the social work staff. Contact with family can also include telephone calls and receipt of mail. Family contracts and treatment plans developed by the Natchez Children’s Home include specific objectives that maximize a family’s efforts to achieve family reunification.

    Sponsor Program
The Natchez Children’s Home encourages area individuals and families to develop a mentor or sponsor relationship with resident youngsters. This involves an interview and screening process that leads to off-campus visits with a child. Sponsors are encouraged to have regular contact, remembering birthdays and holidays, going out to eat, taking a shopping trip, and spending recreational time.

    Volunteer Program
The monetary value of one hour of volunteer service to a non-profit organization has been placed at $l6.52! Thousands of volunteer hours are contributed to the Natchez Children’s Home annually, including office and clerical help, grounds and building maintenance, tutoring and reading, conducting special events, and raising funds. Foster Family Program
Foster families undergo an extensive interview and screening process that allows them to have a child placed in their home for an extended period of time. Foster families receive training and supervision from the social work staff and incorporate the child into their home and existing family.

    Residential Program
Children of all ages, birth through seventeen years, are admitted to the Natchez Children’s Home. Short and long-term placements are under the supervision of a houseparent couple who provide round-the-clock care. Youngsters benefit from a structured, stable, loving family environment that includes educational, recreational, social, and spiritual opportunities.

    Pre-School Day Treatment
In a cooperative effort with Catholic Charities, Natchez Children's Home Services provides an intensive therapy and readiness program for pre-schoolers from local families.  In addition to academics to prepare the children for kindergarten, the children are taught behavior skills such as standing in line, taking turns, and other forms of appropriate interaction.

    Family Counseling
Utilizing our Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Natchez Children's Home Services offers therapeutic counseling to the children in residence as well as local families and children in need of these services.  Counseling is conducted both in our center as well as in homes.
